My Favorite Reads
I am an avid reader and I read mostly books that will enrich
me in some way. I have complied a list
of my 5 favorite books right now each offering something powerfully rich to
enhance my self-love, and self-care journey.
It’s so important when we are looking to improve ourselves that we do it
mind, body, and spirit!
I read this daily and it is thee best devotional I’ve ever
experienced. It’s powerful, enriching,
and encouraging. I can count on it to
bring me a great word every single day. Each
page is headed by the date and title. The context is easy to read and each page
has an area to write a few quick notes.
This devotional truly encourages a healthy thriving
relationship with GOD on an intimate level.
I got this as a valentine day gift from my honey and haven’t put it down
since. You can click the link and find
it on Amazon!
In GOD's Presence
My
next pick is “When A Woman Loves A Man” by James Ford Jr.
The book was a complete game changer! It open my eyes to the
way GOD designed a woman to love her man.
I learned so much from this short easy read. This is actually my second time reading it
and it won’t be my last. The way that
the author explains and breaks down scripture is creative, fun, and so
insightful. He tells all the biblical
instructions on what a women’s role is in marriage. I recommend this to single and married women
to keep around. It covers the basic
blueprint and also hard topics like submission, our identity, and our
role. My favorite thing about the book
is the author always refers back to biblical text and that’s important for
me. Anyone can write a book given opinion
but I choose to only accept what’s in the Word of GOD. Again this book can be found on Amazon and I will
link it below.
Moving
right along my number three pick is keeping the same theme of spiritually based
books. “The Art Of Prayer” by Kenneth E.
Hagin.
Now this book was recommended by the lead prayer intercessor
at my church. I am a part of an
intercessory prayer team that meets once a week, we recently started a book
club and this is our first book. This is
a read in progress but so for this is a powerful tool to have in
possession. A healthy prayer life is
literally the key to everything. You can accomplish more in one hour of prayer
a day then you can in a whole 24 hour period.
Everything in this world is spiritual so the more you understand your
power and authority spiritually the more you will walk in that power and
authority in the natural. This book is
also an easy read and it gets straight to the point. Basically for me it has really given me a
strong understanding of what kinds of prayers to pray, why it’s necessary to
pray, and essentially how to pray. If you’re
looking to understand prayer or just to improve or perfect your prayer life
this book is a MUST read! The Amazon link will be below.
Pick
four is “Successful Women Think Differently” by Valorie Burton.
This
little gem I got in the gift shop at the hospital I use to work at. When I say I was shocked how much I’ve
enjoyed reading this I really mean just that.
As I reflect back I believe I was truly led to purchase this book, I let
it sit for almost a year but when I finally opened it, it changed my thought
process instantly. All of life is the
way we think about things. And this book
really concentrates on reevaluating the way we think about situations. This also is a faith based book. 95% of everything I read is faith based just
because I find these books more enriching and life changing for me. I respond to faith and spiritually based
things because of where I am in life. This
book is an easy read and it’s engaging. The
author has self-question sections and also writing exercises. I found them helpful because it causes you to
think and retain what you read. She illustrates
life approaches from different types of woman so you can have a clear picture
of what the successful women did vs the unsuccessful woman.
The biggest take away for me was where the author talks
about the successful woman not blaming herself personally for setbacks or short
comings. She finds other people or
things to place the blame on so to speak.
Now before you say “wait what” lol let me explain. For example you go
out on a job interview and don’t get the job.
Instead of beating yourself up which can cause you to stop pressing
forward, you justify not getting the job on things like maybe the interviewer
was having a bad day, or you didn’t do your best because today was rainy so
your mood was a little off and the next interview it will be sunny, or flat out
that’s just not what GOD has for you. This
way of thinking frees you from self-pity and self-hate that can hold you back
from trying again. Honestly I’ve been
applying that one thing and it has really brought a noticeable change to my
life. Amazon link will be below!
Last
but definitely not least is my 5th pick “Diva-tudes” by Michelle
Mckinney Hammond.
Let me tell about this book here! This is thee first book that had me stomped. She asks some of the most thought provoking question that I’ve ever read in a book. Like I had to really pause and think about the questions she proposes. Now some people might not want to think so hard when answering questions while reading a book but when you really want to change and improve it takes the right questions being asked to get to the bottom, underneath the surface, and too the root of the infection in order to treat it. This book is not one that I could rush through or finish in a day or two. I really let the content sink in and go to the root of my heart. I was in a “stuck” place for a moment, I had gotten a little weary in my walk but this book helped me get back to craving that intimate relationship with GOD. This book is just an all-around great tool to get you at another level! Link below.
I pray that one or all of these books blesses your mind and spirit as they have mine.
If you have any good books you would recommend leave them in the comments section below! Until next entry GOD bless! XOXO ~Melicia Marie
